C-1 is a 1,000+ sq.ft., garden/ocean view condo (open floor plan, hardwood floors, wood-planked cathedral ceilings, two skylights and a magnificent fully-screened, wrap-around 400+ sq.ft. lanai) in Paniolo Hale (Hawaiian for “cowboy house”), an ocean-front complex of 22 bungalow-styled buildings, containing 77 condominiums. It is a popular vacation getaway home-away-from-home for several reasons:

First, PRIVACY. As disclosed in the photos. C-1 is a secluded corner condo (only one neighbor) in a 3-unit, single-story bungalow (no noisy upstairs neighbors). It is bounded by several huge monkey pod trees and a banyan tree, which form an enormous (100+ ft diameter) overhead tree umbrella, rendering C-1 more like a paradise island private home rather than a crowded condominium hotel room.

Second, ACCESSIBILITY CONVENIENCE. C-1 is accessible via a ground-floor, private, front-door entry (40 ft. from the nearest condo door) and its floor level (no interior steps), your car’s parking spot, and the solid concrete, short walkway connecting the two, are all on the same street level. No steps to climb, outside or inside, assuring that your stay will not be marred by unbearable trudges through a maze of corridors and multiple flights of stairs while carrying luggage or groceries.

Third, DREAMY LANAI. Look at the photos – C-1 is dominated by its fully-screened (floor to ceiling) lanai and the uniquely-Hawaiian glass wall, consisting of 18 individual wood-encased sliding glass doors, which open off the unit’s bedroom and both exterior sides of the living room to let in the sound of the waves breaking on Kepuhi Beach. The Lanai is furnished with comfortable teak-wood cushioned deck chairs and chaise lounge, as well as a large dining table, and when you are not on the beach or hiking, that is where you’ll be - at dawn, sipping a morning cup of Molokai coffee, while listening to the chirps and tweets of the multitude of tropical birds departing their monkey pod trees’ nests, and at dusk, your favorite drink in hand, absorbing the birds’ musical warbles and trills as they return to roost, all while watching the magnificent Hawaiian sunset over the Pacific Ocean (and YES, you can see the ocean from the Unit C-1 lanai while SITTING in your chaise lounge, and YES, you are facing west in the direction of the sunset). And then, it’s time to go to bed - you’ll sleep like a baby and wake up the next morning and start your day with your Molokai cup of coffee on the lanai. Again! Don’t you just wish this was your “Groundhog Day”?

Fourth, TROPICAL AMBIENCE. You came to Molokai because it is known as “the most Hawaiian island” and, as you can see in the C-1 photo array, every window and every lanai screen is bursting with the images of the tropical plants and trees which bound the condo outside. Paniolo Hale overlooks an assortment of lemon, lime, coconut, guava, papaya and a host of other trees, and immediately adjacent to C-1 are the aforementioned monkey pod and banyan trees, a huge coconut palm which towers over the bungalow, a grove of banana trees and an avocado tree right outside the front door, and a huge tangerine tree which shades a portion of the lanai. Every evening, as the sun sets over the water, you’ll sink into your lanai chase and whisper “this is heaven.”

Fifth, CLOSE BBQ. There is nothing more frustrating then returning to your condo with barbecued food which is cold because the BBQ facilities are too far or otherwise unsuitably located with respect to your suite. No worry mate. On the far side of the open space adjacent to the back of C-1, hidden by dense foliage designed to make it invisible, are 2 gas BBQ grills which are cleaned and immaculately maintained by the Paniolo Hale ground crew. Once you finish grilling your dinner and take it off the BBQ, you have an easy, 30-seconds walk across the open grassy area to your C-1 front door.

Sixth, BEACHES GALORE. Paniolo Hale is surrounded on all sides by elongated, grassy open spaces which, from the mid-1970s until 2008, constituted the 10th through 18th fairways of the now-closed Kaluakoi Championship Golf Course. These unused back nine fairways, together with the adjacent, unused front nine fairways, are contiguous to 4 magnificent sandy beaches which adorn the property and glorify its tropical aura. The last photo in the C-1 array is an aerial view of the fairways and four beaches. Google them for detailed description and photos.

Your C-1 condo’s front door is a mere one-minute walk away from the 10th fairway trail which is adjacent to the strikingly-beautiful Kepuhi Beach. If you proceed to the left (south), the 10th and the 1st fairway trails lie adjacent to and along the entire length of Kepuhi Beach. Continuing in the same direction, a stroll down the 3rd fairway trail leads you to Papohaku Beach, the longest white sand beach in the state of Hawaii, and, if you desire to continue southward, the 4th fairway trail lies adjacent to and along a portion of the beach’s 3-mile length. If, however, instead of turning left, you turn right (north) off the 10th fairway onto the 11th and 12th fairway trails, you’ll be trekking for several minutes along a rocky formation dotted with tide pools until, unfolding before your eyes, will be Make Horse (dead horse) Beach, a romantic (despite its name), wide sandy beach, bounded by keawe trees which provide comfortable shade from the ever-present Hawaiian sun. Walk up the 13th fairway trail, turn toward the ocean and climb up the small hill in front of you, and you’ll arrive at two coves, bounded by towering rocky walls, which shelter small sandy beaches in a scene straight out of South Pacific.

Once you have visited the beaches off Paniolo Hale, you’re ready to jump in your rental car and explore the thousand other fantastic sites (including additional beaches like Dixie and Dixie Maru which are a ten-minute drive from C-1) which are strewn across the 30-mile long island of Molokai. Obey the traffic signs, especially the one which admonishes you to “Slow Down – This is Molokai”, and don’t forget to get back to your C-1 lanai by sunset. Aloha.

Reviews

beuatiful

We are regulars to Molokai but it was our first time at this particular unit. We loved the tropical atmosphere, space, the lanai and quality-bed and as others have noted: it's a beautiful property, quiet, close to the beach, cool communal pool too. We were confronted with a 24-hour power-outage that made it quite a challenge to get comfortable on our first day. Our point of contact was very understanding and granted us a few extra hours on our day of departure: much appreciated. During our entire stay -probably as a result of the damage caused by the power outage- we had no internet or TV. We sort of missed that. We also felt the cleaning crew could have done a better job and they left laundry in the dryer, which we think they may have overlooked. But other than that: we think this place is a piece of heaven in the paradise that Molokai Island is.

Wonderful

The house was well designed and very nicely appointed. We loved the open floor plan and the spacious wrap around screened in porch. Numerous bi fold glass doors opened onto the porch adding to open design. The porch was surrounded by the parking lot but there was little activity there (during our stay) and the lush plantings made it feel quiet secluded. Nice sandy cove beach just to the right of the properties for swimming and snorkeling.
