Description

Rental Home
Carmel Cottage in the foothills of Jay Peak, Vermont, is a year-round, cute, cozy (wood-stove heated), storey, 1-bedroom (sleeps 5) secluded cottage with outdoor, wood-fired Finnish sauna. We are just 10 miles from the entrance to Jay Peak Resort, famous for its challenging slopes for skiers and snowboarders. We are family owned and among the most reasonably priced (e.g. 3-nights winter $146.67/nt), lodgings in the area.

Carmel Cottage is situated close to the Quebec, Canada border. Less than 2 hours to Montreal & Burlington, VT. We are in the northernmost peaks in the Green Mountain range and just a few miles to the Long Trail (it begins, in fact, on the north side of Jay Peak).

Jay Peak Resort offers not only great skiing and snowboarding well into spring, but even has an indoor, ice-skating rink, and a spectacular indoor water-park, 18-hole golf course, etc. For more info on what Jay Peak has to offer, go to their own web site.

Carmel Cottage is in the 'Northeast Kingdom' of Vermont, the most natural and pristine area in the state.

Other attractions include New England's deepest fresh water lake, Lake Willoughby, famous for its high, flanking cliffs making the half mile wide lake resemble a Norwegian fiord. Trout and salmon are taken from here as long as 2 to 3 feet. There are also three public beaches, including the world-famous clothing-optional beach at the southwest end. Willoughby is about a half hour from Carmel Cottage.

Many other lakes are in the area, even closer to Carmel Cottage, such as Lake Eden in Eden and Lake Memphremagog, an international waterway, situated mostly in Canada but beginning nearby in Newport, Vermont. All these lakes offer great boating, water-skiing, scuba-diving, swimming and fishing.

Rivers (the Missisquoi) and brooks abound, also offering fishing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming in idyllic swimming holes (e.g. the 4-corners swimming hole in N Troy downstream from the scenic Big Falls). Buck Hill in Westfield/Lowell also has several swimming holes on Taft Brook.

Snowmobile devotees can ski-doo to the Vermont VAST Trail right from Carmel Cottage.

Great restaurants abound in the area, or for a 'continental feel,' drive north over the border and dine in Mansonville, Quebec.

Please note: the per night price listed is based on a minimum 3-night stay. For only 2 nights, the per night rate is a bit higher.

Rental Notes
Security deposit: $200 (but one month’s rent for guests staying longer than one month).

Payment types: Check, Money Order, Visa, MasterCard. Since we are too small to justify our own merchants’ account with a local bank, we use PayPal to handle all credit/debit cards. If you prefer to pay this way, we will email you a PayPal invoice and you pay them—not us. PayPal notifies us when you pay and we immediately email you a receipt and confirmation of your dates. It is a good idea to pay the first $300 payment in this way, especially if you are booking several weeks in advance because it serves to lock in your dates. Since your 2nd and final payment of your balance is not due until 21 days before your arrival, there is plenty of time to make this payment the good, old-fashioned way—snail-mailing us your personal check! However, if you really want to make your 2nd payment by credit/debit card, we can do as we did with your 1st payment—email you a PayPal invoice and when they receive your payment they notify us and we email you a receipt and confirmation.

Just Like Home

Jim and Linda were great hosts during our stay in their loft. It felt like a home away from home, only minutes from Jay Peak. it was a cozy experience..

Amazing stay at beautiful place with excellent hosts!

This place was great. Our hosts were lovely and the cottage was perfect (fully equipped and larger than we imagined). It was heated by a wood stove that kept the whole place toasty, perfect to come home to after a day at Jay Peak. The sauna was also amazing. Our hosts got it hot for us whenever we wanted and we certainly made use of it. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to go back soon!

Relaxing and comfy...very close to Jay Peak

I would recommend the Carmel Cottage to anyone who likes a comfy winter getaway. The skiing at Jay Peak makes all the relaxing well worth it

Charming cottage in the country

We spent a long weekend relaxing in Jim and Linda's cottage. They are super down to earth people and we felt comfortable right away. The cottage is comfortable with a TV, cable, phone, wireless etc - even a fantastic wood fired sauna. I would recommend it for a family or a small group for a quiet getaway close to Jay Peak for when the ski bug bites.
