Description

Unique Inn! Sun.-Thurs. 1 night Rate for 2 people, $225/nt. Everything included!
The Two Room Inn is your own charming Victorian cottage in the heart of Nevada City, a beautiful, historically preserved gold rush era town in the Sierra foothills. Step back in time ....just two and half hours from San Francisco.

This beautiful, unique home was built in 1880 as a miner's cabin. Around the turn of the last century it was converted into a residence. At some time in its history it was a rectory and then late in the 20th century it was renovated yet again, took on its present 'castle' look, and was known as the Teddy Bear Castle due to the owners' large collection of antique teddy bears which were also the basis of the American Victorian Museum at the Miners Foundry in the 1980's. Lovingly restored to its present Victorian splendor and completed updated in 2004, it is now a perfect little Gothic Victorian gem from which to explore all that Nevada City and the environs have to offer. Walk out your front door, through the garden, and out the front gate, and you will find yourself in an amazing Victorian town, with beautiful historic homes, cafes, shops, galleries, wineries, and restaurants to suit every taste, all within a few blocks of your own beautiful cottage. Stroll around town and enjoy the ambiance, the art ( Nevada City has long been a haven for artists), the shops, and the mountain scenery. Stop for a coffee, breakfast or lunch maybe right across the street at the Broad Street Cafe, a snack at one of the yoghurt or ice cream shops, have lunch or dinner in one of the wonderful eateries in town, or come back to your own charming place and cook dinner at home. A short drive will bring you to the wonders of the Sierra foothills and the gold rush era. Beautiful scenery, pristine forests, river crossings with amazing swimming spots, hiking trails, and historic gold mining towns, some still with residents, some with only the local ghosts roaming the streets.

Spring, summer, and fall are gorgeous for outdoor activities. The fall foliage is magnificent, and winter brings its own charms. Nevada City's famous Victorian Christmas celebrated throughout the month of December, draws visitors from all over. And the occasional snowfall blankets the town and countryside in white. Skiing is only an hour or so away, up Interstate 80 towards Truckee. If you want a more temperate climate to stay in and not have to go too far to ski, Nevada City is the perfect spot. If golf is your passion, there are three championship golf courses in Grass Valley and Auburn, just a short drive from the Inn.

Nevada City, and it's close neighbor, Grass Valley, another vibrant historic town, host a wide variety of cultural activities all year long. There are music and art festivals, fairs, the Nevada City Fourth of July Parade, and the famous Nevada City Bike Race held in downtown Nevada City each year on Father's Day. The North Columbia Story Telling Festival, also held every year, has gained wide notoriety and draws folks from all over to hear some of the country's best storytellers. North Columbia, just a short drive from Nevada City, is a former gold rush town, now just a crossroads with the old two room schoolhouse converted to a community center as the venue for the festival. Check the local chamber of commerce web site for the schedules of all the events in the area.

Whether you come for two or three days or a week or more, you will never lack for things to do, and you will always have your beautiful Victorian cottage to come home to. The cottage is fully equipped with all modern amenities, updated and modernized bathrooms and a full modern kitchen, heat and air conditioning, flat screen TV, WiFi, gas grill, washer/dryer, and two off-street parking spaces. But it also has all original stained glass windows imported from England, gorgeous redwood and elm interior, a fireplace built with cobblestones from Old San Francisco, a front deck surrounded by gardens, a private back yard, and a lovely balcony off the bedroom upstairs, with views down Broad Street - the perfect spot from which to watch the 4th of July parade, the Father's Day bike race, or just the comings and goings of Nevada City. The house is situated at the very edge of the commercial district, and so in the quiet part of town, but steps away from anything you might want to do in the village itself.

Come experience the unique charms of this lovely home and its wonderful surroundings.

We also have a special, mid-week (Sunday to Thursday) one night rate for two people, of $225, inclusive of everything. Please contact the owner to book this special rate.

Cancellation policy includes a full refund if the house can be rented to another party.

Lasting Memories of Two Room Inn - plan to return

We reserved the Two Room Inn for our daughter's wedding at the Miner's Foundry, which is two blocks away. We had no idea how amazing the weekend would be, how pivotal this incredible gem of a house would be - lasting memories. First of all, Marney was amazingly friendly and quick to respond in every step in the process. It felt far more personal than typical reservation experiences. I have to say that the pictures do NOT do this place justice - I was expecting it to be far "cozier" than it is. This place is classy, elegant, and spacious! The house is a feast for the eyes - the antiques are lovely, the stained glass windows - well, we have some amazing photography of our lovely daughter in that house. The kitchen is more than stocked with anything you can possible need. With two decks, you have the ability to entertain - we had about 20 out-of-town guests the night before the wedding - the large private deck in back was perfect for our barbeque - I brought disposable products and discovered more wine, champagne, coffee and regular glasses than we could ever use! The fiesta ware dishes were so fun! This home has a deck right off the front for the enjoyment of watching Broad Street tourists go by. The upstairs bistro set on the balcony was a perfect spot for brunch the day after the wedding. Every single thing you might need is there. Our daughter's wedding party got ready at the house. We used the incredible stained glass bay window for photos, the garden for photo shots of the gown and rings, etc. I look forward to going back for a leisurely stay with friends. Sitting at the top of Broad Street, it is a perfect spot to stroll down to shops and dining. We (the entire wedding party) strolled to the wedding venue! Wonderful spot.

Coziest spot

This place is beyond adorable! Right in town, yet just at the end , so it is not noisy from the street.

Magical place to stay in the heart of Nevada City

The Two Room Inn is one of the most charming places my husband and I have ever stayed. It was very cozy and beautifully decorated with furnishings that looked perfect in the Victorian style of the home. The bed was so comfortable and the bedroom so elegant with the balcony looking out onto the main street below. Lots of stained glass windows only added to this amazing home from yesteryear! Many fun shops to spend time in , and good restaurants make this a really interesting destination. The owner Marney, was able to let us stay one night instead of two, the people who were coming in before us couldn't make it. Because we only had one night, and she was able to accommodate us, my birthday surprise from my husband was Fantastic! We highly recommend this lovely place

Amazing cottage in downtown Nevada City

My wife and I rented this amazing cottage the week of our wedding and it was spectacular. The place was so beautiful both inside and out that we actually took some of our wedding photos there! The owner clearly takes care of the place and has made sure to maintain it's gorgeous charm while adding in modern amenities that make it an easy and very enjoyable stay. The wood floors, decorations, stain glass windows, balcony...everything about this place makes it enchanting. The location is also perfect, putting you walking distance to everything you need in town (restaurants, coffee shops, banks, shops, bars, etc.) while also allowing you to enjoy peace and privacy at the house if you prefer. We loved staying here and will definitely be back, maybe even making it a tradition to come back on our anniversary! I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone visiting Nevada City.

Victorian beauty

Lovely, charming property. Marney, the owner, was very helpful in all aspect. Would definitely recommend.

Charming Historical Respite

We visit Nevada City every summer at least once. This is our new favorite place to stay. It's close proximity to everything is perfect for strolling about. The home is styled with love and panache. It is cool and relaxing. Perfect for family gatherings or a romantic getaway. A truly interesting and gorgeous, historical home.

Vintage/Modern Cottage Perfection

I read the great reviews and saw the beautiful pics online but still tried to keep my expectations at bay after booking this cottage. However, my expectations were far exceeded upon arrival. Easy off street parking at the back of the house, warm inviting entry way, ample living and dining space, kitchen with everything you could possibly need and I was challenged to find something missing but failed miserably, modern thermostat which worked very well in the chilly winter, charming vintage décor, beautiful view from every window and front porch to watch the amazing city bustle around you. I could go on and on. My family and I very much enjoyed our stay and used every minute we could to remain in that space until checkout. To top things all off, the owner, Marney, was nothing short of amazing and I had the opportunity to meet her on my way out. She went above and beyond with her interactions and customer service and I honestly could not have asked for a better getaway from the beginning stages of booking to the end of our stay. I am currently searching for an opportunity on my calendar to reserve this place again. Thanks so much, Marney for sharing your lovely home with the public and for providing and affordable, accommodating home away from home!

A perfect vacation house

The moment I walked by the Two Room Inn while in Nevada City a few years ago, I knew I had to stay there. It was absolutely the cutest place I'd ever seen from the outside. Had to google and bookmark it immediately. I was smart enough to book it far in advance to be able to stay there this last month during one of the Victorian Christmas days in Nevada City, and it was pure perfection. The location cannot be beat - the christmas fair is literally right outside the door. And the house was just as beautiful and thoughtful inside as it was outside. The furniture was both beautiful and absolutely comfortable. Our group had the best time hanging out at the house, and taking trips around town to eat and explore the fair. Cannot wait to stay again next year.

Amazing Victorian Gem Glitters in Gold Country

What a treat to stay at the Two Room Inn. This charming cottage is clean and well maintained, and has all the amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, down to every detail. The customer service was exemplary. Best of all, you could not ask for a better location. All the boutique shops and restaurants of Nevada City are right outside your door! I would highly recommend the Two Room Inn as a stay over or travel destination.

Beautiful home.

Clean, cozy and well furnished. Walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Two minor complaints would be that there was no "starter" kit of basic cooking supplies (no oil, spices or coffee/tea/sugar) and there is a light on a motion sensor outside downstairs bedroom that kept going on/off during night that disturbed sleep. Would definitely stay here again! Loved our trip and the Two Room Inn!

Great location. Super cozy.

This house was the perfect place to stay! Right in town and walking distance to everything. There is a lot of cool history in this house and I loved the antique feel, but it was still very comfortable. We had a great time! Thanks for everything

Delightful

From coffee on the front porch overlooking Nevada City, to the instantly historical feel of the place, the Two Room Inn was a wonderful home base for our trip to Gold Country. The comforts are all there, including throws on the couch for cool nights and a well equipped kitchen. The colorful kitchenware suits the Inn and makes the breakfast spread in the stained glass dining area or the plate of afternoon cheeses (check out the Wheyward Girl) even more special. The location makes it easy to wander Nevada's City's shops and galleries at an easy pace, heading back to the Inn whenever one needs a break. Our hostess, Marney Craig, was a delight to work with from the moment of reservation to her instant fix of the heater controls on a cool night. We look forward to staying again and sampling even more of the area.
