Well worth it!

The living room opens right up to the pool which was awesome, making it nice open concept. The outdoor lava shower was a big hit. Short stroll to the cliffs to watch the waves crash. We quite enjoyed the privacy of the location. Overall, no complaints. We had 4 adults and 4 children and there were enough towels, beach toys, snorkels, water shoes, and pool toys for everyone

House of paddles

Beautiful home, private and quiet, very nicely furnished and beautiful yard, interesting weather but if you've been to the area before you know to expect that. Nice kitchen and with all the doors and windows you can really open it up and enjoy the fresh air, definitely a great vacation home.

Perfect first stop in Hawaii

The description does not do it justice. From the beautiful handmade furniture, to the great room that opens to the lanai, to the outdoor shower in the private master suite, to the beautiful, serene gardens, this place is an absolute gem. Although it is described as a 3 bedroom, there is a large, separate suite available for larger families, making a 4th bedroom. It was perfect for our family of 7 adults and a toddler. I would highly recommend House of Paddles to anyone.

A great house in Kea`au, south Hilo

This is a very nice house .. 4 bedrooms (we had 8 adults with some small kids), including a detached master suite with a huge bed and "outdoor" shower (just outdoor to the sky; the lava rock walls were very high). We loved the broad doors that opened up so that the living room was a seamless part of the lanai (patio) and the pool area. The pool is compact (no olympic laps here) but was great for cooling off and general fun frolicking with the kids .. about 4 feet deep. Also, it was a "salt water" pool .. no chlorine, which was fantastic. Nice kitchen with great selection of pots and pans, and misc supplies (salt, pepper, etc). It was nice having a washer/dryer. FYI: watch out for mosquitoes; nothing specific for this property, but general issue everywhere in Hawaii. There were a surprising amount of nighttime animal noises -- frogs, geckos, crickets, etc -- after dark, late into to evening. And, it's dark .. on a clear night, you'll see lots of stars. It's about 30 minutes to Hilo town, and about 2 hrs to Kona airport (there are no direct flights from the US mainland to Hilo; bummer). This is a great base to start from to explore the Puna district (south Hilo), Hilo town, and other windward-side spots.

Exceeded our expectations

Our family of five stayed four nights and we did not want to leave. It is obviously a well loved home and not "just" a vacation rental. The furnishings were not only tasteful but high end quality. Each detail-both inside and outside-has been thoughtfully chosen. It is very clean, spacious, well stocked (including snorkeling gear), and Cory was quick to respond to our questions. The pool is perfect to listen to the coquí frogs sing, star gaze, and cool off before going to bed. We loved the open floor plan design. The guest house with the outdoor shower was amazing as well. We took a bike ride at sunset and grilled out wonderful dinners. We felt "off the grid" and very safe to enjoy the solitude. We were close to the grocery in Keaau, beautiful black sand beaches, snorkeling, Hilo, and the Volcano National Park. We spent 2 weeks on the islands and this was hands down our favorite home. We hope to return. Mahalo!

Private Romantic Oasis

Encircled with gorgeous botanicals & shapely palms, & a variety of trees all thru out the property. Coqui, gecko, chameleons, crickets, & roosters are pleasant to view & hear. The pool is a fantastic, relaxing dip in between rooms. The outdoor shower is definitely a highlight... enjoyed the private room apart from the rest of the home. Thank you kindly for the poolside water gear supplies, having a laundry machine & dryer, & having a theme based home. House of Paddles is an excellent title. Malama pono ... I shall book again in the future.. Aloha!!

Great stay at House of Paddles

We had a great time staying here with our family (4 adults and one 13-year old). The house was clean and in great shape when we arrived. The layout was perfect for our group - we had room to spread out and my parents enjoyed the privacy of the separate in-law suite. There are beach towels, chairs, a cooler, etc to take to the beach, but what we really enjoyed was our afternoons and evenings grilling and hanging out at the house lanai and pool. For those looking for in-town Hilo, this isn’t it - it’s a 20-30 minute drive - but it’s perfect if you don’t mind a bit of driving. We hope to stay here again!

Fantastic home in a beautiful area

Our family of five plus a set of grandparents stayed at the House of Paddles. The house is clean and well appointed. It is an easy drive to Hilo and Pahoa. There is a nice walk from the house to watch the waves crashing on the rocks (no swimming access). We went to Hilo to visit the beaches and waterfalls. To the south in Pahoa there is a great farmers market. It’s an easy drive to volcano national park. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend the place.

Lovely Home

This property was beyond what we expected! The open concept was appealing for our family as we were able to open up the doors to the family room and have a great space to hang out while the girls were in the backyard. Kitchen is fully stocked with all we needed to cook nightly. The small casita off the main house was great too because it provided a fourth bedroom. Outdoor rock shower was a nice touch.
