secluded Hawaiian cottage

Fresh fruit on arrival was enjoyed on our stay. Really liked large screened windows, opened day and nite to truly experience living as close to outdoors as possible, never needing to close up as temp does not change much. Walking in 11 acres and viewing flowers and fruit hanging from trees for picking when ripe.Outside deck covered launa with barbecue, hammock was peaceful in evening. remember to use insect repellent as nosem bugs are lurking nearby. Hard to Beat

The Honeymoon Cottage is on a 17-acre farm. We were given all the Kona coffee and fruit we needed for out entire stay. The landscaping was more lush than you can imagine, a real tropical paradise. There is complete privacy and a real feeling of being safe. There is an outside covered bar with views of the ocean. We enjoyed out happy hour there every day. Our hosts, Mike and Vika, allowed us our privacy, but were also very warm and friendly. Vika came up midweek with an extra bowl of fruit and a package of cocoa nibs. When we first got there, Mike showed us around the grounds, even taking down a cocoa fruit, cutting it open and telling us about the process of harvesting it. You can't be around Mike without learning some cool things about farming on Hawaii or growing tropical plants. If we come back to the Big Island - and there is a good chance we will, we will undoubtedly want to spend another week at the Honeymoon Cottage. It will be like coming home. Thank you, Vika and Mike, for your wonderful hospitality! Ray and Christy Teurfs

Wonderful :)

Perfect place to stay - clean, beautiful, and comfortable. Loved the view! Thanks Mike and Vika for being wonderful hosts - amazing fresh fruit and coffee. We especially appreciated having the swim fins, cooler, beach towels, and boogie board available for our use. Internet worked great. I would absolutely recommend staying here!

Best hosts ever

Mike and Vika were fantastic hosts. The cottage is on a working cacao farm. While we were there they showed us how they harvested, fermented and dried the cacao fruit to turn it into chocolate and taught us fascinating things about the business. Their farm is like a paradise garden with hibiscus, coconuts, papayas, coffee and many plants I didn't know. They brought us fresh fruit and let us pick our own papaya. It is part way up the hillside and has a beautiful view of the ocean. The place was clean and beautifully furnished. They are an organic farm, which means they don't use harsh chemicals, so you can expect more bugs than in other places you might rent. Mostly we encountered fruit flies and millipedes, not bugs that bothered us personally like mosquitoes. They provided us with some bug spray that helped a little.

Perfect

Private, quiet--perfect for us

This cottage is in the hills above the water at Captain Cook. Victoriya and Mike have only a very few cottages that are on the mountainside above their own home. After showing us in and providing us with fresh local fruit, coffee and a bit of information, they left us alone to enjoy our stay--just what we were hoping for. The cottage is near the best snorkeling on the Big Island, parks to explore and some of the most delicious coffee you'll ever taste. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax away from--but within driving distance of--the tourist center, this is the best place possible.

Very special place

A cottage in a coffee farm. Great views and lush gardens. Host Vika is superb freidly. She would show you her farm upon request. She has an amazing property. A lot of work but you can see they love it and we love it as well.

Wonderful Hosts. Wonderful Views.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this property for 7 days in May. Checking in was easy (make sure you follow the instructions on how to access the property from the driveway) and the drive to the actual unit had great views. The hosts were really great. Both are very nice and very responsive. They took us on a tour of the property (which is huge) and showed us the many different things they grow on the farm, how they process it and the different steps involved. They made sure to show us where the fresh fruits were and how to pick them whenever we wanted. We also came home one evening to a bunch of fresh bananas picked and waiting for us at our front door. The unit itself was exactly what it looks like in the pictures. I would say the only thing to be aware of is that this is on a farm and the unit is tucked away next to many trees. This gives it privacy and a nice feeling of being secluded but also there are going to be some bugs around. All the open areas are screened in, so it's not like you're going to be swarmed by bugs or anything like that, but the occasional moth might find it's way in, a gecko or two might be crawling on the walls (with very cool coloration) and a bug or two might crawl on the floor. This is the reality of island life, especially on a farm and being nestled into trees and plants. Speaking of plants, they have a huge variety of beautiful different plants and flowers. My skin especially appreciated the alloe vera plant growing right outside of the unit after a long day at the beach in the sun. I know the hosts have some exciting plans for the future as well on how to continue to deliver a great experience for people that travel and stay with them. You really get the sense that they love what they're doing and want to share that with everyone who comes to visit.
