A perfect piece of paradise

My partner and I travel extensively in Mexico but had never been to Colima. In 2006 we found the VBRO website and this great house in Colima to rent. We flew into Gaudalajara an took the bus to Colima. When we arrived we felt a bit disoriented but were greeted by the owners family who were very kind to us. They took us to the rental thru thier back gate-- it was on the other side of a tall wall. This cute little white casa with a red tile roof is even better than the pictures. The house is situated with two or three other houses in a gated compound. The pool is really delightful, cool, and refreshing. We visited in April and although Colima is at the base of two volcanos it's still pretty warm during the day-- the pool was a "must" for me and I wasn't disapointed. The interior of the house felt brand new and was incredibly comfortable. The rooms were decorated in a classic Mexican style-- which we love. We also loved having TWO bathrooms. We used one bedroom for our stuff and the other for sleeping. The kitchen was much better equiped than mine at home. My favorite part of this little casa was the roof top. I enjoyed going up there to hang up my just washed cloths and to watch the sunset. My partner loved the hammock on the back porch and we both enjoyed having an evening cocktail on the covered front porch in the handsome leather furniture out front over looking the pool. We pulled oruselves away from our casa-paradise each morning for a stroll downtown. We exited the property through a secure gate on the street. At the gate we turned right and headed down the street toward the center of town, then right again at the corner, left over a bridge, then straight into the center of town where the big church, plaza grande, and museum is located. We had our morning coffee under the umbrellas at the fancy hotel under the portales. We also found a wonderful restaurant with the best pollo mole I have ever had in my life! To get to this place, you exit the gate of the rental property and go LEFT, walk to the corner and go left again-- then I am not sure how far you go-- but a ways. There will be a produce market on the right I believe. This restaurant is near the market. It's across from a small church on a small plaze and has a roof that looks like a green house! Also a great internet place right down the street from the Mole place!

Our fourth time in Casa De Las Palmeras, Colima, Mexico

It was our fourth time in this lovely house in Colima, so obviously we love it. Three first times we were on a vacation and this time we had opportunity live a whole year in Colima. The house is very well equipped, with private pool and garden, so what else can you ask for? Colima is small, peaceful and pleasant city, but big enough to have everything you need. Good restaurants, shopping centers, super markets, but on the other hand you will find everything from mercado just behind the corner... We really love Colima because even though locals are used to foreigners, it's not a tourist place and you don't feel like "walking wallet". We are really hoping that we can return back to Colima as soon as possible... Ville and Petra from Finland

Lovely, private and clean.

I have stayed at Casa de Las Palmeras three separate times for a month each time and have enjoyed every minute of it. It is truly a very special home in a very special place. It is situated about a fifteen minute walk from the center of downtown Colima, and is one of four houses in a gated villa surrounded by majestic trees and beautiful gardens. It has its own pool and a number of places to relax in the large yard. It is extremely private and can not be seen from the street. There is parking if you have a car and, if not, almost constant taxi service by just walking out the gate to the street. (A taxi almost anywhere in the city is only $2.00 to $5.00 dollars.) I am amazed at how quiet and peaceful it is and yet practically in the middle of town. Laying by the pool it is so quiet that you could believe that you are in the country. The neighbors in the other houses are rarely seen and when they are they always smile and wave. I frequently make the short walk into town to the plaza where there is always something happening: music, dancing, restaurants, cantinas, shopping and wonderful people watching. The house itself is quite large and has two good sized bedrooms as well as TWO full bathrooms, a living room, dinning room and kitchen. There is a patio in front and a patio in back as well as another patio by the pool and a large beautifully manicured lawn. Spectacular flowers and plants abound and enough mangos for an army, plus several palm trees swaying in the breeze. Colima summers are hot and there is no air conditioning, but by keeping the windows closed during the day and opening them in the early evening the house is quite comfortable. The rest of the year it is just warm, night and day. For some, pleasant, reason Colima has very few flying bugs. Rarely have I seen a fly and only heard a mosquito several times. If you have reason to be in Colima or just want to "get away," this is a rental that you should consider. I love the place.

Muy Bueno!

I hesitate to add another glowing review for no other reason than I want to keep this gem all to myself! That wouldn't be fair though so I'll add my voice to the mix. Just like the other reviews I can't say enough about the house itself, the owners and the entire rental experience. The house is fantastic; well appointed, very private and a perfect oasis in the midst of the city - and VERY quiet at night. It's within walking distance of restaurants, shops and museums and the good sized private pool is fantastic. Beyond this though, the owners were responsive to all my questions and inquiries and couldn't have been nicer. We only corresponded by email but I feel like I know them. Likewise, their parents who live next door and manage the property were two of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. We met their dog, saw pictures of their grandchildren and talked to them in passing almost daily. It was a wonderful experience. As for Colima itself, we loved it. We're spending this winter and next looking at potential places to buy a retirement home and Colima is definitely on our short list. It's a very compact livable city with anything you could ever want without being too large or overwhelming. Not every experience we've had with VRBO rentals has been positive but in this case the best thing I can say is there were no surprises. The home was exactly as presented and there was nothing missing or lacking. We're already sorry we have to leave and it's only because of other circumstances that we're not booking next year now, before it's too late.

A lovely oasis in a busy city.

We were in Colima for medical reasons and the casa was always something to look forward to after busy days. The charming decor and pool added to our experience. The bathrooms worked well. The bedrooms were roomy and the internet was reliable. Look forward to returning under more holiday like circumstances.
