A Wonderful Island Getaway!

I've stayed here twice and loved both times. It is a beautiful home and perfectly located. You are close enough to get to Waikiki nightlife in minutes, but just far away enough to enjoy the peace of the beautiful setting. I've slept in the pool house and the main house and both are terrific. The pool house is quite large and slept our four person family easily. The photos show you the lovely decorating and great view. I wish I was having breakfast looking onto the ocean right now! I love to walk and find that the area around Diamond Head offers everything from an easy stroll to a challenging ocean side walk to, of course, the climb up the volcano itself! My husband is a surfer and was thrilled that the house was so close not only to the ocean but also major roadways so we could easily explore this amazing island. The owners are very helpful and I would recommend the property to all my friends - I already have! We'll be back soon!

Ideal location to enjoy all aspects of Oahu!

We are a group of seven adults from Boston who just finished a one-week stay at the property. The home is very spacious, with plenty of locations (lanai, dining room, pool area) to sit together for dinner or drinks, but also has plenty of room to find space for a nap or some quiet time. The view is spectacular! The property is just far enough from Honolulu that you do not feel you are in the city and can enjoy the sounds of birds and island breezes, while Waikiki and excellent beaches like Hanuma Bay and Lanikai are less than a 1/2 hour away. The kitchen is well-appointed and perfect for cooking for a larger group. The house was very clean and beautifully decorated. The pool house is also very spacious and allows for a great area to enjoy in the evening without disturbing the neighbors. The owner is very responsive to questions and flexible with check-in and check-out times. We highly recommend this property for a group or family trip.

Wonderful Vacation Home

There were 8 of us and the accomodations fit us perfectly. The location was great. Just minutes from Waikiki, east side activities close by, and it was easy to get to the windward side over the Pali Highway. We certainly enjoyed the pool and the pool house is so nice. There are a lot of steps since this house is on the hillside. So good knees are in order! We loved sitting on the lanai with its beautiful view of Diamond Head and the ocean. You may want to bring a hairdryer since we could not find one in the house. There were beach chairs, beach toys, noodles, and mats. A good time was had by all!

Perfect Hawaiian Home

Our family of 5 adults and 3 children loved the accomodations from the clean well appointed main house with its fully equipped remodelled kitchen to comfortable living room, spacious mastersuite with amazing views from the jet tub, perfect family friendly pool house and of course private swimming pool. The breathtaking views of the ocean and Diamond Head can be seen from every where as you are high up in the hills overlooking Maunalua Bay. The photo's were a perfect representation of the house so there were no surprises when we arrived. I don't think there was a thing missing from the home or the pool house, we even had a BBQ which was great. The homes location is perfect for sightseeing and relaxation, you are a quick 6 minute drive to Waikiki, close to amazing beaches, groceries, shopping and restaurants. We loved the residential location as you were able to enjoy a quiet evening on the lanai after a full day of touring or swimming without the craziness that can come with busy Waikiki. Charlie and Janice are two of the nicest people we have ever met, they were gracious hosts and we felt lucky to get to meet them. Charlie responded very quickly to any and all questions I had and really made us feel at ease prior to arriving. We would definitely recommend this property to families looking for the perfect "home base" or couples wanting to sightsee during the day but then have the calm serenity of the oceans and mountain views in the evening. Since the house is built on a hill, I would not recommend the property if you have mobility issues or trouble with many stairs (there are 64 from the pool to the top level) - but for us this was the perfect amount of exercise to warrant all the extra eating we did:) We can't wait to return!

Dream view vacation

The home being built on a mountain, provided many new and fun experiences. There are three levels to this home, each has a washroom and spacious Hawaiian comfort. A pool on the bottom floor was essential as there is no air conditioning, but this still proved to be a fun and excellent way to cool off from the sun. The photos are accurate, it was a cleanly home and the ambiance you get from being in the home is very pleasant. Location wise, you're a 5 minute drive from Kahala mall and another 10 minutes from there to get to Diamond Head volcano. The H1 highway is just before the mall, so going anywhere such as Hanauma bay or Waikiki is a breeze. Speaking of which, that's another pro to being a mountain, you get more of a breeze but never in our four week stay was it ever windy. Also if you're looking to go for walks, going on a morning or evening walk on this mountain is great exercise. Above all else, the view was magnificent, photos don't do any justice to the paradise feel that you receive. It's a dream to walk out on the balcony and soak it all in! Lastly the owners were welcoming, kind and helpful which is also why there is no trouble recommending this home to anyone else. 5 stars!

Hillside getaway

Perfect location for traveling and easy access to major highway. Accommodations fit our family very well. Poolside was warm when the beaches were not. Thanks to Charlie and Janice for making our stay so memorable.

Perfect Spot for a Family Vacation!

My husband and I decided to have a "family reunion" vacation. His family were coming in from Japan, and we were arriving from the Bay Area. We could not have picked a more perfect spot! The house fit all 8 of us (6 adults and two kids) perfectly. Despite the lack of air conditioning, the house was open and airy - fans in every room helped greatly. The kitchen was perfectly sized and stocked for family meals - which we had many! Jan and Charlie could not have been more gracious hosts. They were welcoming, helpful when we had issues (the only real issue was not understanding how the shower worked :-)) and a delight to chat with and get to know. The absolute stand-out of this house is the pool. For my nephew (14) and niece (7) they were in that pool any time they were awake. And of course, for the grownups, being able to enjoy a drink, listen to some music, and relax in the pool after a "hard day" of sightseeing and dining out made this the perfect way to end our days. We'd come back here in a heartbeat. The only caveat I would mention is the stairs - 3 - 4 flights from the entrance to the poolhouse. If you have family members who have mobility issues this may give you pause. My in-laws, who are 69 and 74, are in fine shape and had no problems whatsoever. Thanks again to Charlie and Jan for an absolutely perfect vacation home!

Bucket List Bliss

Who knew when we booked a trip to Oahu we would be crossing Hawaii off of my 85-year-old mother’s bucket list but also have the privilege of being treated as family by our wonderful hosts, Jan and Charley? This home is magnificent and very spacious! The pictures are highly accurate in depicting a well-kept, warm and inviting home but those pictures simply do not do the magnificent views justice. It was a breathtaking experience to wake up each morning and step foot out on the deck and absorb the beauty of this island from a beautiful home on the hill. The large and well-equipped kitchen afforded us opportunities to prepare our own meals and relax after a busy day of sightseeing or outings to the beach. Even though there were only four family members on this trip, we could spread out between the three different levels and have our own privacy yet come together in the living/kitchen area to share family time and/or meals. Our mother stayed on the main level which was one flight of steps down from the street and she didn’t have any difficulty with the stairs at all. The rest of our family agreed with a previous reviewer in that the rest of the steps were great exercise to work off delicious food and drink of the island. If you have the time and are so inclined, take some time to chat with your hosts. They are the some of the most gracious and interesting people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. They recommended a great restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, dinner and several happy hours. They are very knowledgeable about the area and can point you in the right direction for most anything you would want to do! They even took family pictures for us when we headed out to a luau one evening. The home was perfectly situated so that any tourist spot or the beach was only a short drive away. It was nice to come home to the peaceful quiet neighborhood after a hectic, fast-paced day at Waikiki Beach. I would recommend this rental home to anyone and I definitely plan to return to Oahu one day and I will look no further than Jan and Charley’s home for the perfect place to stay.

I highly recommend this beautiful home

We live on Oahu so we decided to book this home to celebrate and host our family visiting for our daughter's high school graduation. Our family of 8 stayed for 8 nights and found it not only as advertised but better; a quiet location, with amazing scenic views, yet near the beach and other great activities. Everything in the house was perfect. It is very clean, the kitchen was very well equipped and the pool was fun. The sitting and dining room were perfect for our family to enjoy daily home-cooked meals provided by the visiting grandmothers. Waking up every morning to the open and well ventilated house, then stepping out into the lanai to take in the magnificent view of Diamond Head and the rest of the island really made or family's first trip to Hawaii memorable. Best of all, you can enjoy the amazing views from all three levels of the house. There is also a Whole Foods, Times Supermarket, and Kahala shopping mall only 3 minutes away. This place exceeded our expectations; the home is extremely comfortable and well appointed. Charles and his sweet wife went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Their generosity and thoughtfulness went beyond being excellent hosts; they even presented our daughter with a nice card for graduation...Thank you Charles and Jan!! I highly recommend this place and would definitely choose this home again whenever visiting Hawaii.

Super Service & Perfect Location!

I booked this property for several weeks as lodging for a team of field engineers in town on an installation project and was delighted that Charles was extremely helpful before and after their stay. Although I never visited the location, the engineers shared that they loved it there. The location was PERFECT - close but not too close. The amenities and layout provided the space and privacy they needed to make their stay pleasant and memorable. If necessary, we will definitely return in the future and would certainly recommend to friends and relatives!

great location and excellent hosts

just spent a very pleasant couple weeks at jan & charlie's place. the pool house being an entirely separate unit was ideal for our situation, two couples part of the same large family. the multi-level layout, although you will get a (perhaps needed) stair workout, was actually ideal for providing different spaces for different people at different times, while the large kitchen and main living/dining area is great when everyone is hanging out together for meals, etc. the house has a lived-in and very casual feel, which is very welcoming and easy to get used to; we felt like it was "our place" pretty much right away. great closet back of the master bath for laying out a suitcase. well-appointed kitchen; we did a fair amount of cooking, and didn't lack for any equipment. a big part, however, of what made our trip special is the hosts, jan & charlie, who were very helpful, and responsive to our every need. we hope to be able to visit them again when the kids are a bit older.

Wonderful!

We rented Charles and Jan's VRBO home for a family vacation and we couldn't have been happier! As stated in other reviews, there are a lot of stairs because it is a multi-level property so be prepared for a workout. The layout worked perfectly for our family as we all had our individual space. Charles and Jan live on property so, they are right there if you need anything. Would definitely rent the property again!

Beautiful Home in Honolulu

We had such a happy time staying two months in this beautiful and very comfortable home, with its breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. The hosts were extremely helpful and kind, we really enjoyed our stay and appreciated their welcome. We would love to return one day.
