Description

Our 1865 farmhouse is nestled into the west slope of Pleasant Valley, with a commanding view of majestic Mt. Mansfield. In the midst of 180 very private acres of pristine woodlands and breathtaking mountain views, the bedrooms are cozy and the kitchen/dining and living rooms are open space, light and airy. With recent renovations, everything is clean, solid and functionally sound without sacrificing the country feel of an old Vermont farmhouse. Decorated in warm colors, each room has its own charm and character. The master bedroom is on the ground floor in its own wing, with two beds, a queen and a twin, and a private full bath. The other two bedrooms are upstairs and share a full bathroom  the one to the right has four twins; the one to the left has a queen and a twin. We have one child-size roll-away and one crib. The kitchen is fully equipped and ready for cooking gourmet feasts. Our washer and dryer ensure that you are ready for anything, whether you brought enough clothes or not.

Underhill, Jeffersonville and the surrounding area offer an abundance of distractions for every taste. Outdoor enthusiasts will find adventure in exploring the network of trails right outside our door, whether for cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, sledding, tobogganing, mountain biking, hiking or simply walking (we have some equipment, and you can rent snowshoes and bikes for the day or week at our local stores). Underhill has got one of the best sledding hills anywhere, and that's just a five minute drive. If you prefer to take walks on the woods trails or on beautiful country roads, you'll be stunned by the beauty and majesty of the unspoiled land and Mt. Mansfield.

This treasure is a place to get away from the hustle, to fill your lungs with truly fresh air, and to re-charge your batteries. With our own pond right off the deck, swimming (summer) and skating (winter) are available on impulse. Our larder is loaded with teas, coffees, hot chocolate, and other cooking/eating essentials, which you are welcome to use, though we ask that they be replaced if usage is heavy. Our caretaker and housekeeper will be happy to pitch in if you'd like their help while at the house. When we say 'vacation house,' we mean it!

As for skiing, Smugglers Notch Ski Resort (known to locals as Smuggs, only 15-20 minutes away) offers groomed cross-country ski trails, a skating arena, and excellent downhill skiing and snow-boarding. Stowe is just 45 minutes away (or you can ski to it from Smuggs) and Jay Peak is about the same. If variety is a compulsion, Sugarbush and Mad River are about an hour south.

For those seeking more pastoral or cerebral activities, there is no lack of beautiful vistas for the photographer and artist; there are antique shops, art galleries, farmer's markets, restaurants, theatres, and shops all within a 40 minute radius, including Stowe village, Jeffersonville and Vermont's largest city, Burlington. And the turn of seasons in fall is utterly spectacular as Vermont's legendary sugar maples put on their riotous display of leafy colors.

As the sun sets and the incredibly clear sky shows off a plethora of stars and constellations, you can come home to relax and toast your toes in front of the big stone fireplace, far from the noise and hectic pace of resort villages with their condos, dense living and commercial traffic. Put on soft music and stretch out, and rest your tired muscles in this serene and private setting!

Our home is the perfect place for your Vermont vacation. It is also the perfect setting for small family celebrations like anniversaries or graduations. Invite your family, friends and relatives to stay here with you. There are plenty of businesses in the area that would be happy to help you with catering and other services you might need. Contact us with any questions or concerns you have. Well be glad to help!

Perfect stay again

Second time staying at the farmhouse in the winter time (first time dec 2017) and we would definitely return again. The farmhouse has such a welcoming, homey feel - books/puzzles on the shelves, fire wood ready for a fire and fantastic private mountain views all around. Amy does a fabulous job of getting the house ready, the house is always very, very clean and ready for use. Mark is incredibly friendly and helpful with recommendations of places to visit. The house is open for your use and it is just perfect. Can't wait to return again!

Beautiful, serene, cozy, everything we could possibly have wanted!

Beautiful, serene, cozy, everything we could have wished for. Owner was exceptionally nice and helpful!

This vacation cottage is very special

We find this place quite incredible! Nested in the center of a pristine valley under the tallest mountain in Vermont, Mount Mansfield, surrounded by 180 acres of woods and a swimmable pond, at the end of a dirt road half way up Macomber Mountain, this place is quiet and private. From the new expansive porch deck, the view has no other houses or structures in sight (the Million dollar view). All you hear are birds, the breeze, an occasional dog bark far away or car on a distant road. At night it's totally dark, and on clear evenings the stars are so bright. Then the moon rises over the peak of the mountain due East. When there last, we took our young kids canoeing down the Lamoille River, let them float and swim in the private pond with water wings, we watch the fireworks at Stowe, saw the Circus (Smirkus), made smores at the campfire, hiked up Macomber Mountain to it's bald peak, BBQ'd, and played board games and with Lego's. We cooked feasts and watched shooting stars. We drank the clean tap water from the house well where the water comes from the unspoiled watershed above the house. It was perfect memories for our kids and we all had a rejuvenating vacation. We definitely will do this again next year. There is no place like this that we know of. It's a family vacation house treasure like no other.

Secluded, serene getaway surrounded by beauty

This home was perfect for our family vacation! The kids and dog thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the lovely pond. The spacious deck was great for relaxing and entertaining especially with the awesome Mountain View. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The family room was week stocked with games and puzzles, it was refreshing to see the kids off their electronic devices! We enjoyed morning walks using the trails starting right rom the back yard. And many evenings spent by the outdoor fireplace. Mark supplied much appreciated information about things to do, and places to shop and eat in the area. We miss being there and look forward to future visits!

Charming Country Farmhouse with Beautiful Views

Mark's place is the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern conveniences. From the moment I walked in I felt at home. The house manages to feel cozy and spacious at the same time, with country antiques and original features (wide plank floors upstairs, wrought iron door latches, stone fireplace) as well as a large kitchen, wrap-around deck, and updated washer and dryer. The deck lets you soak up the peace and quiet while offering views of the mountains and pond. You can see so many stars on a clear night, too! It's hard to say enough about this place, but if you're looking for a quiet getaway in a clean, comfortable house with beautiful surroundings stay here. We were there during the heatwave last week and housekeeper Amy thoughtfully left windows open and the master bedroom fan on for us. Owner Mark was very accommodating and offered us a generous amount of information about the house and the surrounding areas to make sure our stay went smoothly. I wouldn't hesitate to return for another visit.

Solitude

Very quiet and private; beautiful location, excellent facilities.

Peace and quiet

We had an amazing weekend! Well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, amazing views and accommodating host. Loved the pond and the hiking trails branching off the property.

Peace and quiet and fun

Unique private paradise, well equipped, cosy, comfortable, with easy access to canoeing or kayaking rentals in Jeffersonville, blueberry picking with music at Owls Head in Richmond, swimming in its pond, enjoying the gorgeous view while relaxing on the deck, hiking or biking on trails from the house...

Excellent weekend in a lovely farmhouse!

Loved the property, loved the view, loved the quiet!!

Family Wedding

We attended a wedding in nearby Jericho and needed a place to handle 6 people. Saw this listing and decided to book it. Couldn't have been happier. House was as advertised. Rustic but fully functional. Beautiful views, quiet, no distractions. Had all day before the wedding on Saturday night and enjoyed the hiking trail behind the house and the sunshine on the deck. Great refreshing weekend
