Interesting place.

Angela, Mari and the grounds crew were fantastic! We spent 18 days here with friends for the first 7. The main house does not have a restroom, so you have to go outside to one of the bedrooms to use a restroom. A house “manual” would be helpful as we didn’t know not to use the dishwasher and flooded the kitchen. Also would take care of basic questions having to do with things in the house as I felt I had to ask Angela a bunch of questions that she was very gracious in answering, but would have taken care of that. I kept the fountains filled and cleaned the larger of the two as the algae kept clogging the intake. The fish and frogs appreciated it. The Pool area was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed all the birds and squirrels that hung out with us. The fountain at the pool stopped working on the second day, so we kind of missed that, but all in all it was a nice stay.

Very lovely sprawling and spacious property with beautiful gardens and lake view from upper bedroom

We spent a week at this property in late October. Angela was very responsive and easy to work with, and she even arranged for a cook for breakfasts for us at a very reasonable price. The property itself has lovely grounds, with well-manicured gardens, too many sitting areas to count, and a nice pool. The house has three spacious bedrooms, one of which has a fabulous lake view. Waking up every morning and watching the sunrise on the lake was pretty spectacular. The beds were comfortable. The property is pretty centrally located, and you can walk to the center of the village in about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your pace. There are nice restaurants nearby and the amazing french bakery is only 5 minutes away by car. My only small criticisms would be these: 1. For the price, I would expect to see Kleenex and travel size shampoo and conditioner in the bathrooms. 2. One bedroom has been nicely updated, but the other two could use a bit of the same.

Two months in Shangri-La!

Staying at the Villa Tortuga was the experience of a lifetime for us. We usually stay in more modest surroundings but decided to splurge this year. As we didn’t need the third bedroom, we were able to invite a couple of friends to enjoy it with us and help with the rent. This property is expensive but truly extravagant. Mornings and evenings on the huge terrace watching the birds in our trees and the lake in the distance was one of the many highlights of our stay here. The grounds were vast with tropical foliage, fountains, hidden nooks for reading, a greenhouse and a pool complete with its own pool house and washroom. The pool is heated only by the sun but as February was warm this year we did brave the water. A bit painful at first but by March we were happy to get in. We shared this pool and also the laundry facilities with the residents of the much smaller casita on the property. This was absolutely no problem for us. We have many friends in the town and all came over to marvel at our estate and envy our massive and well equipped kitchen in particular. Every bedroom has its own bathroom. Plumbing (hot water) was a bit problematic at times but the fact we had staff on the grounds from Monday to Friday and the owner just a text message away meant that these matters were dealt with. There are also several water heaters to serve such a large house so it was always possible to find hot water somewhere. The house is set in a peaceful neighbourhood just north of the highway and the slope up is not too bad if you are reasonably fit. Once inside the front gate there is another climb from pool level to house level so a certain measure of mobility is required if you don’t have a car. Drivers can bring you up to the house but about ten more steps are still necessary to get inside. We are all seniors but also excellent walkers so we really appreciated the house location close to the French bakery and close enough to town to make an evening walk on the Malecon or a drink in the square totally feasible after an afternoon siesta. If we ever win the lottery, we will definitely be looking at this property again!
