The Olive Adobe is a comfortable, private retreat on 7+ acres, nestled behind terra-cotta walls. 50-year-old, gnarled olive trees, raised perennial beds and pea gravel paths surround the house and every room opens to the outdoors with sliding French doors. Kick back, put your feet up and relax. Lose yourself in a classic novel, gaze at the multiple species of birds from humming to hawk, discover your artist or photographer within. ??
And after a long day of exploring the local rock formations and petroglyphs, enjoy a toast in fine crystal as you relax next to a crackling avocado wood fire in the outdoor fireplace. As the Milky Way slowly emerges directly above you, stargazing might just become your new passion. ??
Inside, you’ll find spacious living and morning rooms containing an eclectic mix of cowboy chic antiques and mid-century modern pieces and collectables from our travels around the world. Mexican and Native American pottery and baskets, and colorful serapes create a comfortable, relaxed, 'put your feet up' elegance that makes this charming adobe feel like home. 2 bedrooms open onto a “secret” back garden with a delightful iron bistro table set for two next to the grape arbor. The front bedroom (the owners' personal favorite) is glass on three sides - a former porch - with access to the comfy porch swing facing west for sunset viewing.??
There’s even an outdoor shower when you really want to commune with nature! ??
A fully equipped kitchen is waiting if you want to eat in. Colorful china and bake ware, heavy cutlery and bandana “napkins” make even a simple meal special here – especially when you eat it by the fire, outdoors, under the stars.

We’re only minutes from Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, but this canyon feels like it’s miles away from everything. Pipes Canyon is bordered by 35,000 acres of “The Pioneertown Mountains Preserve” to the West and 60,000 acres of federal land to the north. It’s isolated, and completely private. It’s like living in your own National Park. There are views of the sawtooth mountains, flat-topped mesas, and impossibly balanced boulders with miles of hiking and riding trails just out the door!! At an elevation of 4000 ft, the summers are cool (10 degrees cooler than Joshua Tree and 15 – 20 degrees cooler than Palm Springs) and winter often brings a dusting of snow.??

Magical Stay
We absolutely loved our time at the Olive Adobe. The home is beautifully appointed and it's clear Peter has put so much care and hasn't missed a single detail. Peter was there to welcome us with snacks and wine and he gave us a tour of the property! The home is comfortable and beautiful, clean and provides everything you could possibly need during your stay and much more. If you are traveling to this area there really is no better place to stay! Go and enjoy the beauty and peace of the desert.

Best Paradise vacation spot ever, Cowboy or otherwise.
I thought our three day stay In Pioneer-town would be fun in what appeared to be a home decked out with artifacts centered around an area where the old cowboy and Native American Indian movies were filmed. Peter Phinney’s spot is so much more. Every detail inside and out at this property is presented with great care for the guests’ luxury and comfort. Let’s start at the top which is a ladder climb up to the roof for a brilliant stargazing experience on an iron bed. We were debating on whether to sleep there. However, the bedrooms are so special, both inside and with beautiful garden area exteriors we decided to re-climb the next night. The property location near to Joshua Tree and the beauty of the land and local birds and animals is unreal. We had a fantastic dinner outside near the fireplace. In fact, there are not enough superlatives to describe this property. Even though we were in the area for a family wedding, I know that we will return again and will be booking with Peter Phinney.

A magical retreat
There is so much that is wonderful about this place. It’s quiet, charming, beautifully decorated and perfect for getting away from it all. If cooking and entertaining is your jam then you’ll enjoy the incredibly well stocked kitchen and beautiful indoor AND outdoor dining areas. Lots of loving and thoughtful touches. Love everything about it. Can’t wait to go back!

Olive Adobe
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Olive Adobe. The house is wonderfully decorated with everything you would need to cook or relax. The beds are comfortable. Peter was nice to leave a basket of goodies for us to snack on. We were in the area to visit Joshua Tree, see the spring wildflowers and photograph the full moon. A truly enjoyable vacation. Highly recommended.

Magical Dream Retreat
The magic of a high desert weekend never disappoints. This little gem of a house was spectacular. We enjoyed the rooftop “dream deck” in the evening with the most incredible sky & stars. This is something we don’t get to enjoy in the city. It’s a world of it’s own. Highly recommend. Superb location. Close to everything but far enough away to be able to escape. Peter is a rockstar host!!!

Olive Adobe is situated in a gorgeous location, with stunning views from each angle. We visited just after a big snow storm and it was quite the winter wonderland. The house itself has a ton of character and charm. Peter is a thoughtful and gracious host!!
